A recommendation from someone who knows your work will almost always carry more weight than a social media advert or even a cold email. That’s because people buy from people they trust or have worked with.
Networking sometimes gets a bad reputation. I sure we’ve been to events where everyone seems more interested in handing out business cards than having a proper conversation. Personally I became disillusioned with business networking some years ago, it just felt too forced. But good networking isn’t like that at all, as we found out now being a member of Business Base
Business Base is about getting to know people over time. Learning what they do, understanding who they help, and building enough trust that you’re happy to recommend them when the opportunity comes along.
That’s why SilverIsland became a member, because it was so different. It’s completely independent from any franchise and the group is run ‘by the members for the members’.
We meet fortnighly, not just to swap referrals, but to support one another. We celebrate successes, share ideas, solve problems and introduce people when we genuinely believe there’s a good fit. Thank goodness there are no hard sales pitches, just local businesses working together and building real relationships.
Networking should feel natural. It’s about helping others, building connections and creating a supportive business community where everyone benefits.
