Bringing ARDA’s Story to Life
Every organisation has a story to tell, and some stories deserve to be preserved for years to come. That’s exactly what we set out to do when SilverIsland partnered with Cyan Marketing to create the documentary celebrating the African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA) 20th anniversary.
It was a privilege to help capture not just a milestone, but celebrate the people, the characters, partnerships and vision that have shaped ARDA over the past two decades of shared commitment.
It All Starts with a Conversation
One of the things we love most about documentary-style filmmaking is getting to hear people’s stories. Before we even picked up a camera, we spent time understanding ARDA’s journey and what this anniversary meant to the organisation.

Working alongside the team at Cyan Marketing, we set out to create a documentary that was authentic and engaging, one that went beyond simply celebrating 20 years of achievements. Instead, we wanted to tell the story through the voices of the people who have shaped ARDA over the years, giving both past and present leaders the opportunity to share their experiences, challenges and successes in their own words.
Capturing Real Stories
During filming, we interviewed key people and presidents who have been part of ARDA’s amazing journey over the last 20 years. Our job was to create a relaxed filming environment where everyone felt comfortable sharing their experiences, memories and hopes for the future.
We carefully set up each interview with professional lighting, audio and multiple camera angles to make sure every conversation looked as good as it sounded. Those interviews became the heart of the documentary, giving viewers a real sense of the passion and commitment behind the organisation.
Where the Story Comes Together
Once filming wrapped, it was time to head into the edit suite and that’s where all the pieces of the documentary started falling into place.
We spent time reviewing every interview, selecting the strongest moments and organising them together with supporting footage to create a story that flows naturally from beginning to end. Editing a documentary is a bit like putting together a puzzle. Every clip has its place, and when everything comes together, the story really comes alive.
To make the documentary accessible to a multilingual audience, we added subtitles in both English and French throughout the film. It might seem like a small detail, but it makes a big difference—especially when you’re watching in a language that isn’t your first. Clear, accurate subtitles help ensure the story is easy to follow and that every message is understood.
All the shots were colour corrected to ensure the footage looked consistent from scene to scene, before colour grading the entire documentary to give it a polished, pro feel. These finishing touches might not always be obvious to viewers, but they play a huge role in creating a professional final product.
A Great Collaboration
Productions like this are never a one-person job. Working with Cyan Marketing was a fantastic experience, and together we were able to create a documentary that celebrates ARDA’s remarkable journey in a meaningful and engaging way.

It’s always rewarding to see months of planning, filming and editing come together in a film that not only marks an important milestone but also tells a story people can genuinely connect with.
